A ukulele video lesson is a great way to learn how to play many songs, including “My Way”, which was made famous by Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was one of the most popular voices of the last century, and his albums still sell readily. He had many different songs that people know and love, including “That’s Life”, “Strangers in the Night”, and “I Get a Kick Out of You”. Of course, one of his most popular is “My Way”. In this article, we’ll learn more about the song, as well as the chords you will need to know to play it.
Most know that “My Way” is one of Sinatra’s signature songs. However, like many of his hits, he was not the writer. In fact, this actually started out as a French song called “Comme D’Habitude”, which translates to “As Usual”. The first person to record the song was French star Claude Francois in 1967. However, this version was quite different from what the song became after Paul Anka discovered it when he took a trip to France.
Anka took the song and rewrote the lyrics. The original song was about a man who was at the end of his marriage. The rewrite turned the song into the one that we know today, about a man who lived life his own way.
Anka was a very popular singer and songwriter, and he pitched the new version of the song to Sinatra, who recorded it in late 1968. While it did well in the US, it really took off in the UK and was able to hit the charts six different times between 1970 and 1971. One of the most interesting aspects of this is that Sinatra did not actually like the song. In fact, his daughter Tina said that her father thought the song was self-serving and self-indulgent. Still, it was one of his most famous songs, and he sang it up until his last concert.
While “My Way” sounds simple enough, you will find that there are quite a few chords you will need to know in order to play it properly. Fortunately, the chords are easy enough to learn. Make sure that you have all of these in your pocket – Am, A7, B7, D, D7, Em, Ebaug, F#m, G, Gm. The song starts off in a rising pattern, and this continues to build in intensity to the finish. Listen to Sinatra’s version a few times to see how it progresses.
Keep in mind that this is a nice and slow song, and that means that you will need to adopt a slow strumming pattern to get it to sound right. Of course, you can always change it around a bit to suit your playing style. To learn it though, it is a good idea to keep it as similar to the original as possible. When you do want to take what you learn in your ukulele video lessons to the next level, consider listening to versions by Elvis, the Sex Pistols, and more.Return to Home Page
