Ukulele Video Lesson - Cold Water (Major Lazer/Justin Bieber)

Ukulele video lessons are one of the best ways to learn how to play many different types of songs. You can even learn to play “Cold Water” from Major Lazer and Justin Bieber, along with MØ. When you first hear this song, you might not realize that it could actually sound very good on ukulele. It is primarily an electronic song, but there’s quite a bit more going on with it. Listen to it a couple more times, and you will see that it really does have the potential to be a great song on the ukulele.

The Recording of “Cold Water”

You will find that there are some similarities with “Cold Water” and “Where Are U Now”. There is a very good reason for this. Many of the same players were involved – Diplo and Bieber. Diplo said that he was very excited to get back into the studio with Bieber on “Cold Water”, and that working with him was always fun and easy.

Another reason that this song works so well is that it was written by Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco. These two had already worked on another Bieber hit called “Love Yourself”. Diplo of Major Lazer had wanted to work with them for a long time, and finally, everything came together.

You will notice that partway through the song, about two-thirds of the way through, another voice is heard singing in addition to Bieber. This is MØ, who had also worked with Diplo in the past. He had thought it would be interesting to add another singer, and he had already worked with her before. He called her, and she was very excited to become a part of the ensemble.

“Cold Water” was a part of Major Lazer’s fourth studio album called Music is the Weapon, which actually doesn’t come out until 2017. The single is out now though, and it has resonated well with fans.

What Makes It Work on Ukulele?

When you listen to the song, you will certainly notice that it is mostly electronic music. That doesn’t mean that you can’t translate it to the uke though.

At its heart, “Cold Water” is a pop song. When you listen to it again, you will find that it features some interesting guitar work, and that it has a decidedly pop feel to it. The ukulele pairs with pop music quite well. Of course, it we’re being honest, you’ll find that the ukulele can work well for just about any type of music.
