Can you believe this ukulele video lesson of "Closer", by The Chainsmokers, has just 3 chords; G#, Eb, and E#m. That's it! The strumming is easy too. It's an all down strum pattern.
Now, let's move on to the main subject of this article: The Chainsmokers. Alex Pall was born in New York in 1985 to an art dealer while Andrew Taggart was born in 1989 and raised in Maine. Alexander is of French decent and Andrew, otherwise known as Drew, of Scottish decent. Fun fact: Part of their charm comes from their incredibly bushy eyebrows. The group began in 2012 and its manager is Adam Alpert. Andrew claims to like going on tour because of the food; after all, he gets to eat from plenty of different cities. In an interview, Alex claimed that his proudest moment so far was going to Tomorrow World. The duo has a very unique sound being that it is considered both Indie and Pop and they are one of the most sought-after music artists in the industry.
The very single that made them stars, #Selfie, was made in 2013, as it turns out, it was a complete accident. The song was meant to mock the culture of Instagram. In an interview, the artists claimed that #Selfie is a joke that no one else understands. They performed the song on the television show, American Idol, in 2014. The DJ's walked onto the stage with leather jackets and began taking pictures with Ryan Seacrest and Jennifer Lopez. Ultimately, the duo got blasted. They became the subject of memes which were created by their fans and by other artists. The whole thing happened only a year after Drew and Alex had met. Now, however, The Chainsmokers have become one of the most sought-after groups in both the Indie and Pop industries. Thanks to #Selfie, the artists were able to sign a record deal with Republic Records, which also works with popular artists like Martin Garixx. The label, however, did not appear to be interested in their other music so the group negotiated a buy-out and resigned with Disruptor Records.
In March of 2016, The Chainsmokers denounced Donald Trump, who is a presidential candidate for the United States and approximately four months later, on July 29th, the group released their song Closer. Apart from the United States, Closer topped the charts in over ten countries. Closer is the song which Taggart decided to debut as lead vocals in the song, which also features Halsey, a pseudonym that derives from the artist's first name: Ashley. Closer begins with a beat that sounds as if it's building up to something extreme, something monumental. And that's when The Chainsmoker's unique sound comes in to take the show.
The song describes a man who reconnects with his ex-girlfriend and ultimately, they have sex. The lyrics give details of biting a shoulder tattoo and pulling each other closer in a car. The lyric, “We ain't ever getting older” which essentially means that one must live in the moment. The narration then switches from the man to the woman, who regrets breaking up with him. The two characters appear to be singing to each other. Both physically and emotionally, they're getting closer to each other.
The duo has yet to release a full album; however, they have been some of the most successful EDM DJ's in the industry. From June 2015, they've made nearly fourteen million dollars.
