11 years ago my parents went to Hawaii and I jokingly asked for a Hawaiian shirt and a ukulele. They returned with a cheap shirt and a kick-ass custom built uke made of Koa by a guy named Mike Ozama. Thanks, Mom & Dad, and Mike Ozama!
I work at a maritime museum in Connecticut (Mystic Seaport Museum). Learned to play my uke by trying to keep up with the pros that work here playing mandolins, banjos, fiddles, etc. I can't play any traditional Hawaiian tunes, but the uke fits in great with traditional sea music.
