Mitchell

by Monica Ford
(Norfolk, VA, USA)

I'm 17 and my little sister has been involved with music for some time. The only musical background I have is a little bit of piano. Last year one of my friends, Alyson, bought a ukulele. It's really cute and small and she's a music student so she'd bring it along to school with her. I have really good memories of hanging out and listening to her play it. Very recently a few of my friends actually bought ukulele's and though I thought they were cool I couldn't see why they would want to buy one. I hate to say it but once someone has something, even though it's still cool, it's no longer "original" and for teens that's a big deal.

I actually went over to Sarah's house and she recently bought a ukulele for $15. It looked like something you would find on a tourist stand, so again I wondered why she would buy it. Just today my family went to a music store to find stuff for my sister's drum kit. I ended up looking at ukulele's and somehow ended up buying mine with my birthday money. I'm a little confused at how to play it, but it's very small (soprano) and easy to hold. I'm sure I can practice with it and eventually be able to play nice tunes, so I'm very glad I bought it.
