Kala

by Gary T. Trevisan
(Florence, Oregon USA)

I call her

I call her "Red"

I am a beginner and went into a local (60 miles away) music store after some research on the internet. I was just going to look to see what they had. I tried out several of the 20 plus ukuleles that they had and kept coming back to the Kala solid mahogany tenor they had.
It sounded so solid and mellow. I had in mind to spend about $70-$100 for my first Uke to see if I was going to like it.
The Kala was $250, but I really liked the way it sounded, and looked, so I bought it. I figured I could always make more money and at 53 years old, I wanted something better than just getting by.
I have been playing now for about 3 weeks, and I couldn't be happier! My fingers are sore, but I know that will pass with them getting toughened up with time.
Looking on the internet for tips on what to buy really helped, but playing it and listening to how it sounded was what I needed. I need to hold things I buy, see how they feel to me.
I like the fact that the fit and finish was good and the sound was wonderful. And it looked really good also!
I recommend the brand to others.
